Description
Enter the Yamaha WX-7. For more than 2 decades, Yamaha made a variety of “X” models best identified for their back construction. The “X-back” or “star-back” construction design was inspired by premium German maker Grotrian-Steinweg, offering added rigidity and stability to the piano’s construction. The result is added dynamic range, tonal variety, improved sustain, and even better tuning stability. This made the perfect design platform for other premium design features in this Yamaha WX-7.
In grand pianos, the string termination in the bass and middle registers of the piano are solid brass agraffes. These are uncommon in uprights, but are present in the Yamaha model WX-7. This cleaner termination improves sustain, reduces unwanted overtones, contributes to better string unisons when tuned, and ensures a more accurate hammer strike point.
Additionally, this premium Yamaha upright also features a ful-sized music desk and a true sostenuto pedal. A sostenuto pedal allows for selective sustain, a technique commonly written in late Impressionistic compositions, Romantic compositions & modern Jazz compositions. This middle pedal sostenuto is practically expected on grand pianos but is rare on uprights, tending to more professional pianists.
The piano also features Yamaha’s Ivorite key covers for the natural notes. This synthetic ivory looks, feels very much like ivory, even feeling cool to the touch. As a side effect, the Ivorite also ages and discolors similar to ivory, though we’ve freshly polished this set to an even ivory color.
This piano was designed to accommodate an advanced pianist’s needs in a space efficient design. The performance is “grand-like” and it will handle most advanced techniques that other uprights struggle with. It also features sound ports behind the full-sized music desk, giving the pianist more feedback and nuanced tone.
