Description

*Note:  Steinway has historically made 2 models that are 5’10.5″ in length.  Steinway first released the model O in 1900.  The model L was a revision of the design released in 1923 and continued in NY until ~2006.  Due to greater cooperation between Steinway’s NY and Hamburg factories, the model O was re-introduced in NY 2004.

So what are the differences between the L and the O?  Honestly, very little.  The action is the same, the strings and bridge are the same, the shape of the rim is subtly different near the bass corner.  The idea in the redesign of the L was to slightly increase the soundboard area in the low bass and low tenor region for smoother transition between the bass and treble bridge (a.k.a bass break).
